Wolf Territories, New Life Italy, and Littlefield get perfect scores as OSgrid residents sour on their grid – Hypergrid Business
Scores of the ten grids that had the most responses, in each of the five categories. (Hypergrid Business data.)
More people took the OpenSim Grid Survey this year than last — 111 responses, up 16 percent from 96 in 2025 — and OSgrid, the grid that goes offline at the end of the year for a reset, had the lowest scores of any grid in the survey, by a wide margin.
Meanwhile, three grids got perfect scores from their residents — Wolf Territories, New Life Italy, and Littlefield, which also topped last year’s survey — and a grid I’d never seen in this survey before, Friends Grid, came in fourth and was home to as many respondents as OSgrid.
Last year’s other top grid, Utopia Skye, didn’t get any responses this year. And after I said last year that I’d try harder to publicize the survey, I did — and it helped.
Of course, 111 responses spread across 32 home grids is not a lot, and these results are not statistically significant. One unhappy resident can move a grid’s average by half a point. So, as always, consider the following for entertainment purposes only.
That said, I will point out that Wolf Territories did it again. Last year, I was surprised that the most popular grid in OpenSim could keep its residents this happy. This year, its residents gave it fives on everything but community, where one person gave it a four.
Where do OpenSimmers live and visit?
Between them, the respondents named 32 different grids as their primary homes and had visited 41 different grids.
Kitely was home to the most survey respondents for the second year in a row, with 15 percent, followed by OSgrid and Friends Grid at 11 percent each, Wolf Territories at 8 percent, and Neverworld at 6 percent.
Kitely still isn’t on my list of suggested grids, because the list is based on active user numbers, and Kitely doesn’t report any. Several Kitely residents wrote in to complain about this. Again.
It doesn’t mean that the other grids don’t have a lot of residents — just that their residents might not have heard about the survey.
We also asked our readers about the grids they’d visited, other than their own home grid.
This is the most useful chart in the report, because it doesn’t depend on who happened to hear about the survey. On average, our respondents had been to three or four other grids — or at least could name three or four off the top of their heads. That’s down from five last year.
OSgrid, OpenSim’s oldest grid, was the most visited — 71 percent of respondents had been there, not counting the 11 percent who make it their home. That’s in line with previous years, and it’s the number to keep in mind when the grid goes offline on December 31. For seven out of ten people in OpenSim, OSgrid is a place they go.
The next most visited was Wolf Territories with 48 percent, followed by Alternate Metaverse at 37 percent, DigiWorldz at 32 percent, Sciattisi Grid at 26 percent, and Neverworld at 24 percent.

The numbers add up to more than 100 percent because most people have visited more than one grid.
Kitely, as usual, is the exception. It was home to the most respondents, but only 6 percent of everyone else had visited it. That fits what I hear every year: Kitely is popular as a place to keep a home avatar and a private world, and everyone in OpenSim shops at the Kitely Market, which delivers content to almost every other grid. But it is not known as a place with a strong in-world community or a lot of social events, so people don’t hypergrid over to hang out.
Most residents said they were very happy with their grids — 89 percent would “absolutely” recommend them to others. Six percent said “maybe,” 3 percent said they would not, and 3 percent didn’t know.

That’s a little below last year’s 92 percent, and OSgrid is the reason. Five of the nine “maybe” and “definitely not” answers came from OSgrid residents. Leave OSgrid out, and 93 percent of everyone else would absolutely recommend their grid, 2 percent said maybe, 2 percent said no, and 3 percent didn’t know — right in line with previous years.
Technology, support, community, and content
I did not ask people to compare different grids and tell me which one is better. After all, nobody out there has visited all the grids and tried them all out. Instead, what I do every year is ask people what they think about the grid that they spend the most time on.
Typically, people rate their home grid highly. And that makes sense — after all, that’s the grid where they decided to spend their time. That’s why most grids score 4 and 5 in every category. If people don’t like a grid, they leave and go live somewhere else.
As grids get larger, however, they also get more people who are generally discontented. In addition, larger grids may have problems maintaining their technology or support. As a result, smaller grids often do very well in these annual surveys.
You’ll notice that the difference between grids is often a fraction of a point, so please do not take these results as gospel. The charts below cover the ten grids with the most responses, and some of those grids had only four or five.
Technology
Wolf Territories, New Life Italy, Littlefield, and BloodMoon all got perfect scores for technology, with Kitely close behind at 4.94.
OSgrid scored a 3.5 — the lowest score for any grid in any category this year, and down from 4.8 last year, when it was in third place. That’s not a surprise. The grid’s asset database was flooded with junk data by a malicious actor, the grid was down for weeks this summer, and the people filling out this survey were doing it while deciding where to move.

These survey results also only show how users feel about the technology — not about the effort that the grids have put into their platform. OSgrid is where the OpenSim developers do their testing, and Kitely and Wolf Territories have both done a great deal of work on custom code. None of that is necessarily reflected in the poll numbers.
Support
Four grids got perfect scores for support — Wolf Territories, New Life Italy, Littlefield, and Kitely — and Friends Grid was right behind at 4.92.
OSgrid again scored lowest, at 3.91. As in previous years, that’s mostly because the grid is entirely volunteer-run, without paid staff to handle resident issues — and this year, those volunteers have had a lot to handle.

Community
For community, New Life Italy and Littlefield got perfect scores, followed closely by Friends Grid at 4.92 and Wolf Territories at 4.89.
This is also the one category where Kitely slipped below the pack, at 4.75. See above.

Content
In content, Wolf Territories, New Life Italy, and Littlefield got perfect scores, followed by Friends Grid at 4.92 and Groovy Verse at 4.83.

Additional comments from the respondents
The following are representative comments about the grids. There were 46 comments in all, and if anyone wants to see them, or use them on their websites, just email me. I won’t include any personally identifiable information.
I’ve left out the repetitive ones, anything that seemed like a personal attack, and a couple of grid owners’ sales pitches. I’ve also edited out personally identifying information, and the comments have been very lightly edited for spelling and grammar.
DigiWorldz
“DigiWorldz continues to thrive and will always be my home in OpenSim. A close-knit community feel that allows you to develop very real and lasting friendships and relationships.”
“I would recommend DigiWorldz to anyone. It has a very loyal crowd, mostly American and a few Europeans. Lots of parties, live talks, theater, and games are a few of the events held.”
Escape 2 Reality
“Escape 2 Reality is a small grid, lots of clubs, games, shopping is great, and it’s growing every day. It is based on friendship, building, group activities, and fun activities.”
“I have been in OSgrid almost 17 years come May, and Escape 2 Reality three years as well. These were my home bases, and of course I hypergrid to visit other grids.”
Friends Grid
“Friends Grid is fairly new, but Safine has been wonderfully welcoming and accommodating. The community is amazing and welcoming. They have their own shops, with everything needed to get started, if you are new to the OpenSim experience. There are lots of dances, parties, and themed events to enjoy. If there’s ever any issue, Safine is quick to help find a resolution.”
“Friends Grid has been the best overall for me as a builder and creator. The owner, Safine, goes out of her way to help the residents with the technology and building. People are friendly and there is very little drama at all. It’s a very relaxing grid. It’s got the best sailing experience of any I’ve seen in OpenSim.”
“Me and my wife love our island. It looks and sounds so real. The staff and support we get is 100 percent great all the time, and so are the other members on this grid.”
Groovy Verse
“I like to travel around, but my home is really important to me, and I found it in Groovy Verse, with a generous, open-minded, careful, creative, and funny — sometimes even wise and spiritual — atmosphere. Maybe it does not show its whole beauty in the first moment and to strangers, but when you discover it, it is simply great.”
“I have been logging in to OpenSim grids for over 15 years. I’ve been a resident of Groovy Verse for the last three. I’m happy to call most of our grid residents good friends. Our grid manager does a great job.”
“I am the grid owner, so I am biased. But I will acknowledge that I could do a better job at support. I am responsive and take care of people, but am super disorganized. I’ll strive to do better.”
Kitely
“I chose Kitely because of the marketplace, as I’m a content creator. I like being able to sell my wares across all grids through this one marketplace. I like the people, and the owner is approachable and kind. The pricing for sims is amazing too. I have four.”
“Kitely provides excellent service and communication. We get a lot of land for a good price, I can make it completely private if I like, and if there’s a problem with my grid, the devs are right there to help.”
“I’ve been in Kitely for many years. I’ve been on other grids, but Kitely has been the most stable OpenSim grid I have been on. The technology adapts, the prices stay reasonable. There is a very creative and friendly community that focuses on creativity rather than just dressing up in stolen content from the big grid.”
“Kitely has always been well-run and technically ahead here in OpenSim. A proud member for well over a decade.”
“Kitely should be in the top list! Amazing tech and support and bargain value.”
Littlefield
“I know Littlefield has only just returned, but a lot of returning residents are very excited about it. It’s running under new and better hardware and amazingly fast. Welcome back! We missed you!”
“Littlefield is the best grid ever. It’s my home and I love it there. I won’t change it for any other grid. The parties are awesome, the staff is helpful, and the people are nice here.”
Neverworld
“I have been in virtual worlds since the Lindens were kids. Neverworld is by far the best. Friendly, knowledgeable. Community is a very high priority in Neverworld. Our people are family. The support here is phenomenal. I have been here two years or thereabouts, and the tech — I can’t keep up with all of the new services. Neverworld is growing by leaps and bounds.”
OSgrid
“OSgrid has been my home for 17 years, and I have been happy to deal with the ups and downs of this grid, as it has been the test grid for many others. It is sad that the freedom it gave to people now has to stop because of one malicious person. But that is the world we live in today. Long live OSgrid.”
“Safine on Friends Grid has been especially helpful to me as I try to relocate lodgers from OSgrid for the period of the shutdown.”
“I wish grids would go back to just playing music at dance events instead of these high-pressure karaoke singers that want money, followers, and so on all the time. I miss the relaxed atmosphere of dance gatherings.”
“I spent a lot of time on OSgrid. So I do hope it comes back stronger than ever.”
Virtual Worlds Zone
“Great grid community that likes to share and work together, helpful and fun. Has a great music scene. Grid owner is helpful, and problems are dealt with.”
Wolf Territories
“Just moved onto Wolf Territories Grid and blown away by how well it is supported and the advances they are making with OpenSim technology.”
“Out of all the grids I have visited or lived on, Wolf Territories is the best by far, and I am not leaving it. The backend software is second to none and the help that you get is above extraordinary. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.”
“I have been on Wolf Territories Grid since April 2023, and I have a region on this grid. I came here when Lone was really starting to grow. I have personally gone through many growing pains as he worked to expand his vision. The wheels haven’t fallen off. In fact, the wheels became wings, and the sky is not even a limit.”
“If Wolf Territories can only go as high as five for technology, every other grid needs to be at one or two.”
Smaller grids
“Genesis Roleplay Grid is a small grid whose owner has the best heart in all OpenSim. I recommend it highly for its community.”
“With OSgrid going down again, and me having the resources and technical ability to run a grid, I decided the best solution was to no longer host regions there. I am looking for stability. I am building a community (Starbrook), and good people are welcome.”
“We (Kurtopia) are not looking for quantity of members but quality of members. We prefer to remain a boutique, drama-free community living in harmony. We are nonprofit.”
“Tenth Dimension Grid is a home for creative minds: artists, builders, scripters, designers, and experimenters who want to do more than simply occupy virtual space. We are a small grid, and our goal isn’t simply to increase our population. We’re not looking for the most residents. We’re looking for the right residents.”
“I always spend my time on my own grid, Ciudad404. Everyone can enter the regions and visit. I don’t do activities, since I spend most of my time building the giant city, which I started in 2011. All the city is being hand made with prims. I’m heavily against AI, so boards showing my dislike of AI will be there all over the city.”
